Common terns at Preston docks

Ten years there were no terns that summered at the Docks, then a few years ago a few came and bred. The following year there were a dozen or so, then last year 60-70 were present. A massive increase in just a few years. The terns have just started arriving back from Africa this week, i counted 14 present today and this will no doubt increase over the next week or so.

Fylde bird club, Lancashire County Council and RSPB have been working together to encourage the Terns at the docks by putting tyres filled with gravel on the disused jettis at the docks. These are used highly successfully as a nesting point and more have been put on site this year.

Awesome birds and such great views of them displaying and courting can be seen at the docks, definitely recommend it.
